Former UK Minister and Senior Advisor, Covington & Burling

Francis Maude was an MP for 27 years in total, serving as Minister for Corporate Affairs, Minister for Europe and Financial Secretary to the Treasury.  He was subsequently Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Shadow Foreign Secretary and Chairman of the Conservative Party.  Between 2010 and 2015, as Minister for the Cabinet Office in the Coalition Government, Francis led a programme that cut over £50 billion from the British Government’s running costs, led the UK’s programme on open data and transparency, and got the UK to the top of world rankings for digital and open government.

Francis left the House of Commons in 2015, and served for a year as Trade Minister.  He now leads FMA, a business working with other governments on efficiency and public sector reform.  Francis is a Senior Advisor at Covington and Burling, the Washington law firm, and advises several other businesses.  He is Chairman of Cogent Elliott, a leading advertising agency.
